Zombie Facts

The newsroom

Zombie facts don't stay on Wikipedia. We watch the news two ways: stories that lean on research since retracted, and claims fact-checkers have already knocked down. A person reads every case before it shows up here, and before any outlet hears from us.

News cases

    How a news case works

    1. Found. A story names or links a retracted paper without saying so, or repeats a claim a fact-checker rated false.
    2. Read. We read the story in full. Stories that report on the retraction, or quote the claim to debunk it, are dropped.
    3. Asked. We write to the outlet's corrections desk with the sources, and give them time to answer.
    4. Logged. Fixed, updated, declined or no reply. Every outcome is posted here with dates.
